New flexible working legislation from 30th June 2014

Brit workers spend 131 million hours a week working flexibly

“46% of UK workers find their local coffee shop a more productive environment than their office” and why not? With a big shift towards flexible working, more and more people are opting to work from less conventional places.

A recent study by telco O2 found that 54% of people were unaware of the new government legislation surrounding flexible working. From 30 June 2014, all employees have the legal right to request flexible working – not just parents and carers. To be eligible, employees must have 26 weeks service minimum.

I had the luxury of working for a company who embraced flexible working before the change to legislation. We also promote flexible working at Virtual VIP- but I can’t help but think- how will this impact smaller businesses?

Working from home, reduced hours, flexitime, term time working, staggered hours and job share. All things any employee can now reasonably request.

How this would impact your business? Is the new legislation more of a hinderance or a help for business?
